Mackerel

Primary protein & Omega-3 source.
Rich in highly digestible protein and naturally abundant in EPA and DHA to support healthy skin, coat, brain function, and overall vitality.

Pork

Lean muscle protein.
A highly palatable, nutrient-rich meat providing essential amino acids, B vitamins, and minerals to support strong muscles and sustained energy.

Mussels

Omega-3s & joint support.
Naturally rich in EPA, DHA, glucosamine, and trace minerals that help maintain healthy joints, skin, and immune function.

Oysters

Mineral powerhouse.
An exceptional source of zinc, copper, selenium, and B12 that supports immunity, antioxidant protection, and overall cellular health.

Fully Ground Duck Bones

Natural calcium & phosphorus source.
Provides balanced minerals for strong bones and healthy teeth through a whole-food source, without relying on synthetic calcium supplements.

Pork Liver

Nature's multivitamin.
Packed with vitamin A, B12, iron, and copper, delivering essential micronutrients that muscle meat alone cannot provide.

Essential fatty acid support.

The freshness, aroma, and natural ingredients make a visible difference in her overall health. I’ve noticed improved digestion, a silkier coat, and more playful behavior. As a first-time cat parent, I was worried about choosing the right cat food. BARF India’s cooked cat food gave me the confidence I needed. It’s wholesome, preservative-free, and looks like real food I’d cook at home. My cat meows the second I open the pack and doesn’t leave a single grain behind. For me, this feels like feeding her love and care in every meal.

Before You Buy

My cat has been on kibble for years. Isn't switching risky?

The risk of staying on kibble long-term is higher than the risk of switching carefully. Dry kibble carries low moisture content of around 8–10%, which contributes to chronic dehydration in cats, and carbohydrate content of 30-40% which is not biologically appropriate for obligate carnivores. The risk in switching is short-term digestive adjustment, which is manageable.

Transition over 4 weeks. Watch stool consistency and slow down if it stays loose past day 5. Never withhold food entirely, cats risk hepatic lipidosis after 24 hours without eating. Start with the ₹320 sampler so you're testing with small portions, not committing to a full pack before you know which flavour she accepts.

"BARF" stands for raw food. Why is this cooked?

BARF stands for Biologically Appropriate Real Food - the philosophy, not strictly a preparation method. Our cooked range exists for households where raw feeding isn't practical: families with young children or immunocompromised members, cat parents who aren't comfortable handling raw meat, or cats that are senior, recovering from illness, or have sensitive digestion.

Gently cooked biologically appropriate cat food offers a balanced middle ground. Cooking at low temperatures eliminates most pathogen risks while retaining significantly more nutrition than high-heat kibble processing. Many integrative and holistic veterinarians recommend this approach for immune-compromised cats, senior cats, or kittens.

The philosophy is identical to our raw range. The preparation is gentler. If you want to eventually transition to raw, once your pet is comfortably eating cooked BARF India meals, you can gradually reduce cooking and transition to fully raw.

My cat is extremely picky. Will she actually eat this?

Picky cats are almost always reacting to one of two things: the absence of artificial flavour enhancers they've become habituated to in processed food, or the novelty of a new texture. Real food smells and tastes like real food, which is simultaneously more appealing to their biology and unfamiliar to a cat conditioned on kibble.

On day 1 she was reluctant to try it, but eventually had a sniff and licked it a bit. By day 2 she didn't take long to try the food, and then ate the whole serving. Warming the food slightly to just above room temperature releases its natural aroma and significantly improves acceptance. Starting with the chicken or mackerel flavour, both naturally high in the volatile compounds cats find attractive, gives you the best first-attempt success rate.

If she doesn't eat her first box, our Happy Cat Promise credits your wallet in full. No returns, no conditions.

Is 9 ingredients really enough for complete nutrition?

Our 9 ingredients each earn their place through what they deliver: mackerel provides omega-3 protein, pork liver provides B-vitamins and iron, ground duck bone provides calcium and phosphorus, oysters provide taurine and joint support, dried kelp provides iodine and trace minerals. Nothing is there to inflate the ingredient count or reduce cost. The question isn't how many ingredients, it's whether each ingredient has a biological reason to be there. Ours do. We can explain every single one.

My cat has early-stage kidney disease. Is this appropriate?

Share this with your vet before switching: our cooked food has 73% natural moisture content, compared to 8–10% in dry kibble.

Gently cooked food is best for households uncomfortable with raw, or with young children or immunocompromised members. The high moisture is directly beneficial for kidney health, as it reduces the strain on kidneys to concentrate urine.

We do not formulate a prescription renal diet, that requires your vet's specific guidance on phosphorus restriction based on your cat's creatinine levels.

What we can tell you is that if a cat has kidney disease, they may need a reduced phosphorus diet, and a change to their diet should be discussed with your vet. We're happy to send a full nutritional breakdown including phosphorus content by email so your vet can make an informed call. Many cats with early kidney concerns are on our food with vet approval.

Can I feed this to my kitten? She's 4 months old.

Our recipes are suitable for kittens 8 weeks and older who are past the weaning phase. Because all our fresh meals are gently cooked, they are easy to digest and good for young stomachs.

For kittens specifically, feed more frequently, 3 to 4 smaller meals daily rather than 2 larger ones, and use the higher end of the feeding guideline range. Kittens eat a higher proportion of food relative to their body weight than adults.

Our mackerel and chicken recipes are good starting points for kittens: both are high in taurine from whole food sources, which is critical for developing cardiac and visual function. If your kitten is under 8 weeks or still in the weaning phase, contact us on WhatsApp before ordering and we'll guide you on the right approach.

After You Buy

How long does the food last, and what if the power fails?

BARF products have a shelf life of up to 6 months when stored frozen at -18°C and should be consumed within 48 hours of thawing. If a power cut extends beyond 4 hours, move portions you haven't thawed yet into a cooler bag with ice. Thawed portions in the fridge will hold safely for 48 hours even without power, as a closed refrigerator stays cold for roughly 4 hours.

For long trips or festive travel, order in advance, freeze the full stock at home, and arrange for someone to feed your cat while you're away. Do not try to carry frozen food in checked luggage, dry ice is restricted on most Indian domestic flights.

How do I serve it? Warm, cold, or at room temperature?

Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed, never cold from the fridge and never microwaved. Cold food has suppressed aroma and cats rely on smell far more than taste to evaluate food. If your cat is reluctant on first serve, warm the portion for 10-15 seconds in a bowl of warm water (not the microwave, which creates hot spots and destroys heat-sensitive nutrients).

We recommend lightly warming over low heat for 3-5 minutes, just until the food is warmed through. To preserve maximum nutrients, make sure to feed any liquid that cooks out along with the food. Use a flat plate or shallow bowl rather than a deep bowl, cats have sensitive whiskers and many refuse to eat from vessels where their whiskers touch the sides. Serve in a quiet spot with clear sightlines around the feeding area. Cats are cautious eaters and won't eat well if they feel exposed.

Can I feed this every day, or should I mix it with kibble?

This is a complete and balanced diet. It can and should be the only food your cat eats once fully transitioned. Mixing with kibble long-term is not ideal: kibble requires very different digestive conditions than fresh food, and feeding both simultaneously can cause digestive inconsistency and slow your cat's full adaptation to real food. During the transition period, mixing is the method, but the goal is 100% fresh food by week 4. Many veterinary nutritionists recommend a mixed feeding approach of dry kibble as the daily base with wet food added several times a week for hydration benefits.

We disagree with this for cats specifically: cats are obligate carnivores whose digestive systems are not designed around carbohydrate-heavy kibble at any proportion. Our 78% customer retention rate suggests most cat parents who make the full switch don't go back.

What if my cat's nutritional needs change as she ages?

It's not a statement that every cat eats exactly the same amount forever. Feeding amounts change with age, weight, and activity level, your cat's specific daily quantity at 2 years versus 10 years will be different, and our feeding guide accounts for this. What doesn't change is what each ingredient does: oysters support joints at every age, mackerel supports cardiac function at every age, liver provides B-vitamins at every age.

The recipe is built on feline biology, which hasn't changed in 9 years either. For cats with age-related medical conditions, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, IBD, we always recommend involving your vet in any dietary decision, and we'll provide full nutritional data on request to support that conversation.

She was eating it happily for three weeks, then refused to touch it. Same food, same time, same bowl, what changed?

Cats display strong neophilic behaviour, they can develop a growing aversion towards foods that have formed a large part of their diet, preferring novel food. This is documented feline biology, not a problem with the food. It is also the precise reason we make six flavours.

The fix is rotation, not abandonment. Switch to a different BARF India flavour, Chicken & Tuna if she has been on Mackerel & Pork, or Rabbit & Quail if she has been on Buffalo & Chicken. Serve a completely fresh portion of the new flavour, warmed to just above room temperature to release aroma, and give her space. Do not present the refused flavour again for at least two weeks. A food aversion can also form suddenly if a cat associates a particular food with a stressful event during feeding time. If anything unusual happened around the time she stopped eating, a loud noise, a stranger in the home, a visit to the vet, the association is with the event, not the food. In that case, switching flavour breaks the association entirely. If your cat refuses food completely for 24 hours, contact your veterinarian for guidance.

Cats can run into serious issues when they do not eat. Sudden total food refusal that lasts beyond one day and accompanies lethargy or behavioural changes needs a vet assessment, not a food switch.

I've been feeding this for two weeks and I'm not sure it's working. When will I actually see a difference?

Two weeks is too early for the full picture, but not too early for the first signs. Here is an honest week-by-week breakdown of what to expect.

By days 5–7, you may start to notice some positive changes: improved stool consistency, increased enthusiasm at mealtimes, or subtle improvements in energy. The most reliable early indicator is the litter box, normal stool consistency provides the most reliable digestive health indicator. Your cat should produce well-formed stools that hold their shape but are not overly hard or dry. Fresh food stools are typically smaller, firmer, and significantly less pungent than kibble stools because real food is more fully digested, leaving less waste. This usually shows within the first 7–10 days.

By weeks 3–4, energy levels visibly improve in most cats. The runs-to-the-bowl behaviour that reviewers consistently describe starts here, this is hunger driven by real appetite, not by artificial palatants. Within a few weeks of completing the transition to quality food, you might notice a shinier, softer, fuller coat. Coat improvement is driven by the bioavailable Omega-3 from the mackerel and fish oil in the recipe. It takes time because the current coat was grown on the previous diet, new coat growth reflecting better nutrition typically becomes visible at 6–8 weeks.

Weight stabilisation and kidney-related improvements only show on a vet blood panel at 3-6 months. If your cat had elevated creatinine or was slightly underweight on kibble, request baseline bloodwork now so you have something to compare against.

Weeks after the switch, you should observe: a healthy sustained appetite, a soft shiny coat and reduced shedding, consistent normal litter box output, and good energy and a content demeanour. If you are seeing none of these by week 6, reach out to us on WhatsApp with your cat's weight, age, and current daily portion — we will check whether she is being fed the right amount for her size
